As Theatre of the Rockies prepares for its upcoming Hawaiian Island Tour of the John Denver Project, we’ve been reflecting on why Hawaiʻi is such a meaningful place to share this music. Hawaiʻi is more than a tour destination — it’s a community rooted in values that echo the very spirit of John Denver’s work: nature, harmony, stewardship, and connection.

For decades, Hawaiʻi has embraced music that speaks to the land and the heart. John Denver’s songs, with their themes of environmental care and human kindness, resonate deeply with the islands’ cultural emphasis on mālama ʻāina — caring for the land — and aloha, the compassion that binds communities together.

Our nonprofit mission is to preserve musical legacies and bring uplifting, family‑friendly performances to audiences who may never have experienced them live. Hawaiʻi gives us a chance to do exactly that. Many younger listeners know John Denver’s name, but not the feeling of hearing his music in a room full of people, where every lyric becomes a shared moment.

This December, we’re honored to bring that experience to Kauaʻi, Oʻahu, Maui, and the Big Island. Each performance is crafted with respect for the islands, their traditions, and the communities who call them home. From holiday décor inspired by local culture to partnerships with island venues, every detail reflects our commitment to authenticity and connection.
